Renowned American photographer Tina Barney has captured Self-Portrait‘s latest campaign, starring Emily Ratajkowski. It celebrates confidence, embracing individuality, and the joy of dressing up. Titled “Miss Self-Portrait,” the campaign celebrates the power and confidence that comes from self-expression and self-belief and captures the spirit at the heart of the London based fashion houst. The series of candid portraits and videos reflect a modern and playful approach to occasion dressing; portraying the women that influence and inspire Han Chong; those who don’t take themselves too seriously, and who find a great sense of joy from dressing up. Tina Barney’s unique photographic style, known for capturing intimate, real moments, embodies self-portrait’s playful and confident spirit, elevating the idea of women crowning themselves and celebrating their uniqueness. This campaign marks Ratajkowski’s second collaboration with the brand, following her appearance in the “At Home, with Self-Portrait” series last year. She now takes to the stage through Tina Barney’s lens navigating the themes of identity and image ownership. The campaign features looks from the brand’s latest collection. The campaign also aligns with Barney’s first-ever retrospective in Paris, which recently opened at the Jeu de Paume art center in Paris.

Roger Vivier Unveils Petites Merveilles In Paris https://dujour.com/style/roger-vivier-petites-merveilles/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 18:57:36 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=134500 The French accessories brand showcased its newest Pièce Unique collection of one-of-a-kind handbags and gilets designed by creative director Gherardo Felloni during couture week in Paris

The post Roger Vivier Unveils Petites Merveilles In Paris appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Roger Vivier presented the third chapter of Pièce Unique: a rarified showcase of haute couture handbags designed by creative director Gherardo Felloni. Petites Merveilles features one-of-a-kind Viv’ Choc handbags and silk gilets unveiled at the brand’s Parisian boutique on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

Delving into Monsieur Vivier and Felloni’s shared passion for the natural world, Petites Merveilles intertwines the ethereal beauty of insects and their flora with the exquisite craftsmanship of couture. Felloni imbues each creation with talismans and gestures that recall their namesake creature. From butterflies and bees to scorpions and spiders, scarabs, lady beetles and fireflies: all are transformed into shimmering Viv’ Choc handbag and gilet designs through the deft sublimation of rich colors, sparkling textures and figurative forms.

Embodying the qualities of a distinct species or exploring more abstract notions of an insect’s habitat, appearance, or symbolic significance, 15 one-of-a-kind handbags and 4 encrusted gilets become canvases for opulence. From micro to macro, from day to night, and from the lush green forest to the arid desert, landscapes of crystals and bugle beading intertwine. Femininity abounds, in clusters of iridescent scarab beetles, peacock blue butterfly wings embellished with rhinestones, or a pearlescent patchwork of snowy white feathers.

Roger Vivier has collaborated with Academy Award-winning actress and author, Laura Dern, on the “Vivier Express Travelling Icons” series: whimsical short films, imagined by creative director Gherardo Felloni, to celebrate the maison’s iconic designs in unexpected narratives. For the project, Felloni tapped frequent collaborators Italian director Nicolangelo Gelormini, screenwriter Andrea Danese and Studio Paura. “It’s such a delight to see my friendship with Roger Vivier and Gherardo Felloni blossom into a new project that combines my craft of acting with my love of fashion. The Vivier Express is such a playful concept that reinterprets so many cinematic tropes with humor and style.” In this inaugural episode, set against a backdrop of enchanting landscapes, Dern’s character embodies the essence of the Viv’ Choc handbag, a quintessential accessory that mirrors her own timeless elegance and allure. As the train rattles through cinematic vignettes, each frame captures the craftsmanship and innovation of Roger Vivier and reflects the incomparable charm of Laura Dern’s presence on screen. “It feels natural to communicate Roger Vivier’s aesthetic through cinema given the house’s historic connection to Hollywood and the world of French and European cinema that began with Belle de Jour,” says Felloni. “Laura Dern is an actress with a rare charisma, and I am obsessed by the David Lynch films she has acted in, so she has often been an inspiration for me. I am extremely honoured that she decided to collaborate with Roger Vivier on this project highlighting the maison’s icons.”

A Virtual Wardrobe Is Finally A Reality With The Vêtir App https://dujour.com/style/vetir-app-launch/ Thu, 21 Mar 2024 04:12:04 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=133373 Fashion industry veteran Kate Davidson Hudson has launched new shopping app, Vêtir, which provides a platform for customers, stylists and sales associates to help manage and grow clients' closets

The post A Virtual Wardrobe Is Finally A Reality With The Vêtir App appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Vêtir is an AI-driven shopping, styling, wardrobe curation and digital closet management app created by industry vet Kate Davidson Hudson. Tailored for the top 0.01% of global shoppers and their stylists, its AI learning capability provides an exclusive shopping experience that creates a hyper-personalized retail experience, closet digitization and white glove concierge stylist interface to redefine the way consumers shop, engage with and manage the lifecycle of their wardrobe. Davidson Hudson has already signed up top celebrity stylists, Tom Brady, personal shopping sourcers and influencers like Priya Shukla to upload the contents of their closets to the app. The app operates on a marketplace model, with different retail partners plugging into the back end. Net-a-porter is the exclusive retail partner for the first year and Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst and Khaite are direct brand partners.

Davidson Hudson is no stranger to retail, editorial and the fashion market. With 15 years of experience, she’s worked as a fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar and Elle and co-founded retail shopping site Editorialist. Most recently, she was editor-in-chief and chief development officer at retailer Luisa Via Roma. The platform closed an initial fundraise in September 2023.

The Vêtir app

The Vêtir app

We spoke with Davidson Hudson to learn how Vêtir is ushering in a new era of luxury shopping experience through the power of data-driven personalization.

What’s the problem with the current retail models?

The fashion industry, particularly on the luxury end of the spectrum, is traditionally slower to evolve than other industries and right now we have a very fragmented system where brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, social commerce, personal wardrobing, the emergent personal shopper market and personal stylists all work across divergent digital channels, in multiple different micro ecosystems. We have incredible technological tools at our fingertips, yet our industry is one of the last to harness technology to create smarter systems that provide efficiency and personalization at scale.

How did your experience in editorial and retail inform your knowledge of retail, your customers, tech and editorial creative vision?

My career experience, to date, has really helped to cultivate a 360 view of the luxury consumer’s consumption habits—on both a content and product level. How you evolve the experiential value proposition in a digital environment is, in large part, through storytelling. And one of the first things I learned as an editor was the art and power of compelling storytelling. Vêtir evolves this idea in the digital realm, and offers a more scalable exclusive experience without the restrictions of a real estate footprint, time zones or geographic constraints. Through the power of its technology, Vêtir offers exclusive gated and behind-the-scenes shopping events that a brand extends invitations to on a personalized basis, not otherwise accessible to a standard-fare shopper in store or online.

What did you feel was missing in the personal styling and retail worlds that you wanted to solve with this app?

I think personal styling and the luxury shopping experience are limited by institutionalized inefficiencies in the system. Personal shoppers are relegated to the physical confines of a store or showroom footprint. Some can work in a clunky fashion across SMS text or Whats App, but they are doing so blindly without the visibility into a client’s existing closet or any functional data on how that client consumes. For example, a traditional personal stylist would need to psychically go into a client’s closet, bring garment bags of new clothing/ accessories options, style out looks between existing pieces in a clients’ closet and new pieces from brand pulls, then return everything the client didn’t want after the styling session. Adding insult to injury, when that store associate leaves their job to go to another company, the brand loses all of the valuable client data on that store associate’s device. Vetir allows a stylist or store associate to message 1 or 500 of their clients with new arrival options—with one click. They can also virtually go into multiple client closets and virtually style looks, or pre-style looks and share them with not one but multiple of their clients with one click.

What functionality are you particularly excited about?

Our new AI feature that can actually pick outfits for you and send you specific product links. Technology will never be a plug-and-play solve for a completely personalized luxury experience, but it can be harnessed as a powerful supporting player in a client’s fashion discovery journey. As a client interacts with the Vêtir product feed, Vêtir shoppable videos, the Vêtir chat, or uploads product to their digital Vêtir closet, the AI is creating a custom algorithm designed personally for that client.

The Vêtir app

The Vêtir app

How does Vêtir connect personal shoppers with VICs?

We believe that type of 1:1 personal sourcing is an increasingly important part of the customer journey so, for that reason, we are hugely excited that the Vêtir platform is the first and only platform on the market that seamlessly integrates these personal shoppers into the platform interface. We launched with an exclusive partnership with Front Row Live so clients will be able to directly shop her feed and add those items to their closet as they make purchases. In this way, Vêtir truly fulfills its mission to become the one centralized touchpoint for every step of your shopping and styling journey. Vêtir’s white glove closet digitizing service allows for a team to go to a very important client (VIC)’s home, photograph their closet (paging Cher Horowitz) and upload the images for them. Spinelli Kilcollin Launches A Tennis Collection https://dujour.com/style/spinelli-kilcollin-tennis-collection/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 22:18:54 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=133060 The Los Angeles-based jewelry brand debuts its first line of tennis jewelry in the form of earrings, necklaces and bracelets

The post Spinelli Kilcollin Launches A Tennis Collection appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Luxury Los Angeles-based jewelry company, Spinelli Kilcollin, which was founded by designer Yves Spinelli and Dwyer Kilcollin in 2010, has become famous for its interlocking rings, amongst other fine jewelry pieces. Recently, its founders decided to modernize tennis jewelry. The resulting two collections: Lumia and Aysa boasts contemporary interpolations of a timeless design. Crafted entirely from 18k white gold and featuring hand-selected natural white diamonds, the Lumia bracelet and earrings feature unique setting designs that create a dazzling visual effect. Each diamond on the Aysa earrings, necklace and bracelet comes in a mix of 18k yellow, white and rose gold or in solid 18k yellow gold.

DuJour spoke with Kilcollin on the occasion of this launch to hear more about the special collections.

What have you always felt was missing from the traditional tennis jewelry pieces you saw on the market?

The classic tennis piece uses a hidden mechanism to create a solid row of diamonds. A solid row of diamonds is, of course, stunning and the hidden hinge mechanism beneath the classic tennis is very clever, but all together it doesn’t feel like a design, it’s just diamonds.

What did you want to create with these pieces?

Round connecting links are the heart of our design identity. Connecting links gives all of our pieces movement and malleability, and they also define the ethos and philosophy of our brand- connection with one another, with the earth, and the interconnectedness of life. We wanted to make connected links foundational to our tennis collection. Double links form the hinging mechanism of the Aysa collection, while spinning pave links connect the Lumia connection.

What makes them special?

Linking and connection are at the heart of our tennis pieces, giving them unique designs and metaphorical significance.

What has been the response from clients?

I think people don’t expect to see a tennis piece that’s really different…until they do. That was our hope. Now that we’ve completed our designs, we’re seeing clients are pleasantly surprised to see an innovative design that is true to our brand. People love the small details, the movements.

How do you like to wear them?

We’re most excited about layering tennis pieces of different stone and metal variations, in the same way we do with our rings. There are a lot of fun textural opportunities there, also in combination with our delicate hand-made chains.

Chanel has opened a two-story boutique dedicated to the brand’s watches and fine jewelry at 730 Fifth Avenue. This golden jewel box on Fifth Avenue was designed by the brand’s frequent collaborator architect Peter Marino. Framed by the Beaux-Arts gilded architecture of the historic Crown Building, built in 1921, the storefront is adorned with honed and grooved black granite and intricately cast gold bronze screens positioned behind an iron and glass façade. The interiors reflect a delicate yet striking palette of gold and black, enhanced by touches of rock crystal and an exceptional collection of contemporary and fine art (Louise Nevelson, Anna-Eva Bergman and Vik Muniz to name a few), antiques and custom furniture and lighting. The boutique’s bold entryway sets an elegant tone, with black and gold lacquer paneling and antique wooden lotus bouquets from Japan’s Edo Period. Two dedicated fine jewelry salons on the main floor feature double-height ceilings with ornate touches such as hand-applied coromandel-style wall finishes, reminiscent of the coromandel screens in Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment, an elaborately carved 18-inch-high gilt Regency-era mirror and a contemporary ebonized wood writing desk. A dramatic staircase leading to the mezzanine floor (which holds two more fine jewelry salons) features custom balustrades crafted from 24-karat gold framed plates of rock crystal by Goossens. In addition to the brand’s signature J12 watches and Coco Crush fine jewelry offerings, the brand will debut exclusive high jewelry creations “Eternal N°5” composed of an exceptional transformable diamond necklace and earrings that recall the shape of the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle stopper.

Inspired by femininity in all its guises, several designs reference treasured items that Jolie has had in her wardrobe for decades, including a white embroidered cotton dress she wore as a child and today wears as a top, as well as a black velvet cape. The collection is executed in a largely neutral color palette developed for a diverse range of skin tones, while its sizing will cater for a variety of body types. A long black velvet opera cape sets a modish tone in outerwear, conferring enduring elegance on any outfit. A fluid white dress with a gathered neckline made from deadstock micro silk sable, the signature lavallière shirt in deadstock hammered silk-satin, tailored black velvet pants and a streamlined three-piece black suit made from deadstock wool gabardine will be mainstays in any closet when the collection goes on sale in January.

London-based accessories brand Jimmy Choo and the French house of Jean Paul Gaultier have collaborated on an exclusive collection of women’s shoes. The two fashion houses, whose parallel legacies span multi-faceted cultural mixes, a love of craft and an ideology of glamorous rebellion, have come together to create six shoe styles. The plexiglass wedge (etched with the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben, recognizable landmarks of London and Paris respectively), over-the-knee boot, slingback, mule and pumps employ themes of trompe l’oeil, sexuality, rebel elegance and couture craftsmanship. “Jean Paul Gaultier is an icon–as a man, and as a brand. I have adored his work for as long as I can remember, and he has inspired me my entire life in fashion,” says Jimmy Choo‘s creative director Sandra Choi. “I was honored and incredibly excited to be able to reinterpret his legacy, the meaning of his work and his world, alongside Florence Tétier through the lens of Jimmy Choo. What I found was a kindred spirit–both in Gaultier as a house, and in Florence as a woman. We share outlooks and beliefs that we were able to translate to this collection, which celebrates craft, the distinct DNA of both these beloved brands and–appropriately enough–the power and strength of individuality.” The leather over-the-knee boot is inspired by Gaultier’s groundbreaking Les Tatouages collection (spring/summer 1994) while the corset slingback (with criss-cross lacing across an open vamp in white, silver and black and denim) channels Gaultier’s underwear as outwear ethos. “I thought it was a great match, because for me, Jimmy Choo is like the Gaultier of shoes–craft meets rebellion. Gaultier is a strong brand with a strong couture identity, and we really want to partner with people who have a savoir faire that we don’t have,” says Jean Paul Gaultier’s creative director Florence Tétier. “Jimmy Choo has this great expertise, in leather goods and shoes. Both Gaultier and Jimmy Choo are about empowering people–this is what Monsieur Gaultier has always done in his work, and Jimmy Choo too–it’s a great synergy.” The campaign stars Kylie Minogue.

Princess Diana’s Sheep Sweater Goes For $1.14 Million https://dujour.com/style/princess-dianas-sheep-sweater-sothebys/ Mon, 02 Oct 2023 20:25:12 +0000 Edward Espitia https://dujour.com/?p=130435 A Warm & Wonderful knit was the star lot in Sotheby's New York's recent Fashion Icons sale

The post Princess Diana’s Sheep Sweater Goes For $1.14 Million appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Before the revenge dress there was the black sheep jumper. Princess Diana was the master of sending coded messages through her sartorial choices. Everything she wore in public was scrutinized and broadcast around the world, and she used this fact to her advantage from the beginning of her life in the public eye.

The 19-year-old Lady Diana Spencer was photographed at a polo match in which her fiancé, the Prince of Wales, was a player. Her sweater was bright red, with eight rows of perfectly aligned white sheep save for one lone black sheep. Perhaps a cheeky nod to the soon-to-be princess feeling like the odd one out among the Windsor clan?

The designers of the sweater, Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, didn’t know Diana owned one of their pieces until they saw that photo in the tabloids. Their brand, Warm & Wonderful, was catapulted into popularity overnight. A few weeks after the polo match, Muir and Osborne received a letter from Buckingham Palace requesting a replacement or repair to the cuff of Diana’s sweater. They sent her a new one, this time with the black sheep in a slightly different position. The princess wore the new piece two years later, this time with a crisp white collar, black tie and large sunglasses, further cementing it in fashion history. And while the first time she wore it in the public eye may have been a coincidence, this time, it was deliberate. Her relationship with the Windsors and the press had become more intriguing than any polo match.

The original sweater with the damaged cuff was stored away and forgotten until Osborne recently discovered it in an attic clean-out. Realizing its historic significance and not wanting to be responsible for its care, she contacted Sotheby’s. After a lengthy and rigorous authentication process, Sotheby’s was able to verify the sweater’s provenance.

LA-based entrepreneur and fashion enthusiast Natalie Bloomingdale founded the The SIL to give exposure to designers without an ecommerce platform. The site highlights emerging and often hard-to-find designers and provides a shopping destination for discerning women who want to wear pieces that not everyone else is wearing. Bloomingdale has partnered with The Beverly Hills Hotel on a The SIL x The Beverly Hills Hotel collaboration capsule which honors the legacy of Margaret Jane Anderson, the hotel’s original owner and operator. Anderson’s drive and ambition paved the way for the establishment of the “Pink Palace” hotel that was key to the launch of the city of Beverly Hills itself. As the proprietress, she played an instrumental role in the construction and development of The Beverly Hills Hotel amidst what was then open fields and farm land. The success of the hotel led to the city’s incorporation in 1914. Her leadership and entrepreneurial spirit left an indelible mark on the hospitality industry and city of Beverly Hills. Inspired by Anderson’s story, Bloomingdale worked with six female-owned SIL designers (Autumn Adeigbo, Cheeky Vintage, La Vie Style House, Tyler Ellis, Keehn Deutch and Smock London) to create clothing and accessories as a tribute to the trailblazing hotelier’s legacy.

During the fall/winter 2023 couture week in Paris, French accessories brand Roger Vivier presented its Viv’ Choc Pièce Unique collection of one-of-a-kind handbags designed by creative director Gherardo Felloni that explore the absolute heights of aspirational French savoir-faire. Perched upon a magnificent varicolored ceramic chandelier inside the maison, each unique creation is a delicate fantasia of embroidery and precious textiles. From the soaring volumes of the Tour Eiffel and the gilded halls of Versailles to the energy of Paris by night, Felloni explores the dazzling heights of the Maison’s embroidery prowess with each piece, crafting spectacular feats of adornment that go beyond surface embellishment to become exceptional structures shivering with life. In a standard and miniature scale, each piece is hand-mounted and embroidered, with up to 13,000 glass beads and crystals applied by hand (one features a cluster of 7,000 natural pearls). “Monsieur Vivier had always been close to couture,” explains Felloni. “Through these one-of-a-kind pieces, I wanted to pay tribute to his vision of accessories as an integral part of the silhouette. The Marie Antoinette bag is a tribute to Versailles and its gilding but above all to this historic figure who counted in history and most of all in fashion history for her taste and refinement, which are still with us today. It’s made of a sumptuous velvet (using the couture draping technique) and of 500 crystals ornaments and feathers and requires a treasure of craftmanship that makes me proud to develop in the house.”

Anne Eisenhower’s Famed Jewelry Can Be Yours https://dujour.com/style/anne-eisenhower-jewelry-auction-christies/ Wed, 31 May 2023 11:55:31 +0000 Edward Espitia https://dujour.com/?p=129050 Anne Eisenhower's famous baubles including the Van Cleef & Arpels Jarretière bracelet (formerly owned by Marlene Dietrich) are up for auction June 7 at Christie's

The post Anne Eisenhower’s Famed Jewelry Can Be Yours appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Few names in Hollywood can match the fashion cachet of Marlene Dietrich. The Blue Angel is known not only for her impeccable acting chops, but her refined and daring style choices that made her an enduring fashion icon. Her whimsical taste in jewels is what drew Anne Eisenhower (the granddaughter of President Dwight Eisenhower) to acquire Dietrich’s most famous bauble, the Jarretière bracelet, at an auction of the actress’ estate in 1992. The Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet co-starred alongside Dietrich in the 1950 Hitchcock murder mystery Stage Fright. She wore the impressive piece to the 1951 Academy Awards and was photographed with it many times.

It was created when Erich Maria Remarque, the author of All Quiet on the Western Front and Dietrich’s lover, suggested that she take several of her jewelry pieces and have them remade into something magnificent. The result was the impressive Jarretière—a cuff-style bracelet comprising baguette-cut diamonds surrounded by a wide disc of vibrant cushion-cut rubies trimmed with a ring of delicate diamonds. The underside is set with countless pavé diamonds so that the bracelet can sparkle from every angle. It’s no wonder it was one of Dietrich’s beloved pieces. The actress held on to the bracelet until her death, even after financial setbacks forced her to let go of most of her jewel collection. Eisenhower added her name to the Jarretière’s impressive provenance when she purchased the piece anonymously in 1992. A scion of one of America’s preeminent families, she was widely recognized for her flawless and timeless taste as an interior designer and collector. The unique bracelet’s sophisticated whimsy was a perfect match for Eisenhower’s keen eye for exceptional design. “This jewel transcends the jewelry world. It is impressive and striking, whether you have a love for jewelry, an appreciation for art and craftsmanship or even architectural design. This bracelet is one of one. There is nothing quite like it. As jewelry continues to evolve and change, the Jarretière remains uniquely contemporary and awe-inspiring, even 85 years later,” says Jacqueline DiSante of Christie’s, which will be offering the bracelet as the star lot of the auction The Magnificent Jewels of Anne Eisenhower on June 7.

“Cartier Design: A Living Legacy” Opens at Museo Jumex https://dujour.com/style/cartier-design-a-living-legacy-museo-jumex/ Wed, 15 Mar 2023 15:17:42 +0000 Christina Ohly Evans https://dujour.com/?p=127161 A new exhibition featuring jewels from the archives of the French jewelry maison opens March 15 in Mexico City

The post “Cartier Design: A Living Legacy” Opens at Museo Jumex appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
This month marks the opening of “Cartier Design: A Living Legacy,” a stunning retrospective of the maison’s most iconic creations that runs from March 15 through May 14 at Mexico City’s Museo Jumex. The strikingly spare David Chipperfield-designed museum is the perfect backdrop for the collection of 160 objects that were last exhibited at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in 1999 and offer unique insights into Cartier’s strong cultural ties to Mexico as well as its timeless savoir-faire.

Arranged across five themesThe Early Days and the Birth of a Style, Universal Curiosity, Jeanne Toussaint’s Taste, Wearing Beauty and Measuring Time and Maria Félix and Icons of Elegancethe show has been meticulously edited by local design curator, Ana Elena Mallet, with the guidance of Cartier’s Pierre Rainero. Drawing on the Maison’s extensive archives, the pieces selected for this decades-in-the-making exhibition include dazzling jewels, timepieces, accessories and decorative objects that were once worn by the likes of Mexican diva and Cartier devotee, Maria Felix, and the Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont, the famed namesake of the original Santos wristwatch.

“I wanted to bring attention to Cartier jewels as design,” says Mallet of her curatorial process that highlights “pieces reflective of aesthetics, technology, innovation, craftsmanship and style” across two centuries. The selection of a such contemporary settingthe Museo Jumex that opened in 2013made perfect sense to Mallet who is supportive of bringing “different types of objects and materials into a traditional museum space to expand the field of art and to blur the boundaries between artistic disciplines and also see them in dialogue.”

The "Cartier Design: A Living Legacy" exhibition at Museo Jumex

The “Cartier Design: A Living Legacy” exhibition at Museo Jumex

With Pierre Rainero’s expert guidance from Paris, Mallet culled from more than 3,000 historical pieces to create a show that will resonate with Mexican and Latin American audiences. “Mexico City has been very inspirational to the house of Cartier for many reasons; the city’s rich history, the diversity of viewpoints and the notions of beauty here, as well as the natural beauty that surrounds,” explains Rainero. “From the florarich forests, jungles and flowersto the fauna that includes snakes, reptiles and, of course, jaguars, Mexico has always been a rich field.”

Noted Mexican architect Frida Escobedo has been tapped to create the scenography for the exhibition, calling on her design experience for cultural institutions such as the Serpentine Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum. With the stage beautifully set, emblematic pieces designed for Maria Félixincluding a 178.2 carat snake necklace from 1968 and a crocodile necklace comprised of 1,023 brilliant-cut fancy intense yellow diamonds with ruby and emerald cabochon eyesare among the collection standouts. As with so many innovative Cartier designs, these necklaces were made to be worn separately, as brooches, or used as decorative table ornaments.

Equally impressive are the selection of ornate turn of the century tiaras, a 1920s Tutti Frutti bracelet once owned by Mrs. Cole Porter, bold platinum and diamond bangles circa 1934, and a unique scarab belt buckle with touches of gold and blue Egyptian faience. The accompanying sketches in graphite and gouache are exquisite, too, and provide a rare look at the creative process throughout the decades. “The main angle of this exhibition is the journey of Cartier style,” explains Rainero, “so beyond the pleasure of seeing these beautiful pieces, the show will illustrate the different design evolutions from the beginning of the Maison up to present day.”

Today, Chopard launches an new campaign entitled “Chopard Loves Cinema” starring Julia Roberts as its global ambassador featuring a series of short films directed by James Gray (Armageddon Time). Since 2021, Roberts served as the ambassador of the Happy Sport and Happy Diamonds collections but now, she will represent all of the Swiss jewelry house’s women’s and watch collections.

Twelve video episodes will be unveiled over the coming months, debuting on March 20th. “After our Happy Diamonds campaign directed by Xavier Dolan in 2021, which featured a mesmerizing and twirling Julia Roberts illustrating the pure, immediate and communicative happiness at the heart of Chopard’s spirit, this new series broadens the spectrum of the initial momentum,” says Caroline Scheufele, the brand’s co-president and artistic director. “We are revealing a new facet of our identity, the Feel-Good vibe: the self-confidence instilled by Chopard jewelry or watches, reverberating in the air and infusing the entire surrounding universe with positive energy.”

“Julia Roberts is that rare thing: a genuine movie star,” says Gray. “I always jump at any chance I might get to work with her. I always consider my day made if I’ve made her smile. And the work is always a pleasure, if for no other reason than the fact that the camera is as big a fan of Julia’s as I am! Both Julia and Chopard embody a true sense of happiness, so it was a wonderful opportunity to work with them on this campaign.”

The films are accompanied by a new advertising campaign featuring visuals by British photographer Alasdair McLellan behind-the-scenes shots by photographer Greg Williams.

Two French fashion labels have come together for a special footwear collaboration this fall: Clothing brand Ba&sh and sneaker maker Veja have created a multicolored sneaker with a decidedly vintage vibe. Adorned with a 1970s-inspired pattern, the sneakers are available in golden yellow and off-white and are made with socially and environmentally responsible materials (mainly Alveomesh, a technical fabric made from recycled polyester).

Salvatore Ferragamo’s new Iggy sneaker reinterprets the classic running shoe in a cross-gender, contemporary way. Available in a number of leathers, colors, straps and monogramming, the sustainably made, unisex sneakers are fabricated from Econyl, a fiber made from old fishing nets and other nylon waste, felt made from recycled pre-consumer polyester fibers and suede (manufacturing scraps) and leather tested and verified to have been produced using a chrome-free tanning process.

Hoka’s new Bondi 8 sneaker has been perfected, tweaked and improved in softer and lighter foam along with a brand-new extended heel geometry offering an incredibly soft and balanced ride from heel to toe. With celebrity fans such as Cameron Diaz, Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow, Hoka’s new Bondi 8, launching in two new colorways, is sure to be a fan favorite.

A symbol of metamorphosis, the butterfly is the dazzling emblem of both Mariah Carey (her signature song “Butterfly” came out 25 years ago) and Swiss jewelry house, Chopard. So, it is only fitting that the musical icon and Chopard’s co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele have collaborated on jewelry pieces, inspired by the butterfly. The two ensuing collections, the high jewelry Chopard X Mariah Carey Collection and the fine jewelry Happy Butterfly X Mariah Carey Collection, are available for sale on September 16. The Chopard X Mariah Carey Collection features an entirely diamond-paved jewelry set consisting of a necklace, a pair of earrings and a ring in Fairmined-certified ethical gold.

Bubba Watson Continues to Think Pink https://dujour.com/style/richard-mille-rm-38-02-tourbillon-bubba-watson-watch/ Tue, 23 Aug 2022 19:35:50 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=125421 With the launch of the Richard Mille 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson timepiece, the golfer talks about the value of time

The post Bubba Watson Continues to Think Pink appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Richard Mille’s new 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson is the fourth watch bearing the golfer’s name created over the athlete’s 11-year collaboration with the Swiss luxury watchmaker. Produced in a numbered limited edition of 50 pieces, this timepiece is personal for the 43-year-old American golfer, who has 12 PGA Tour victories under his belt. DuJour talked to Watson to learn more about the ongoing creative process with the brand.

Richard Mille’s new 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson

You’ve been an ambassador for Richard Mille for 11 years. Why is it a fit for you?

I love their creativity, beauty and artistry. I think outside the box and so do they. That’s the beauty of Richard and, over the last eleven years, I’ve learned that they’re not scared to take on any project. So naturally, Richard and I became friends and now, I’m a part of the family.

What do you love about the color pink?

Pink stands out. It’s a color that everybody notices right away. Pink, to me, is about giving, about charity. My pink driver that I play golf with has helped me raise millions of dollars for charity. To make a pink timepiece with Richard is the symbol of who “Bubba Watson the golfer” is. So I just thought it would be a cool piece to do.

Which RM watches do you wear and on what occasion?

I truly love the diving watches because, you know, I’m out on the boat fishing with my kids or swimming at the beach here in Pensacola. Obviously when I’m out and about in town, I’m wearing the Bubba watch. If your watch has your name on it, you should probably wear that one the most!

The new Richard Mille 38-02 Tourbillon Bubba Watson

What do you love about wearing a watch?

I’m only late sometimes, but wearing a watch definitely helps me get to places on time.

What’s your relationship with time?

You can never get time back, so time is very valuable in my life. I’ve never been late to a tee time, so my professional career is doing alright.

How do you spend your free time?

Spending time with the kids. Spending time with my wife. Trying to do stuff together as a family like going to the beach, fishing, getting out on the boat away from our hectic life. Away from phones and the internet, where you can just enjoy life and enjoy the beauty that’s around us.

With great beauty all around, the French Riviera is the perfect place to celebrate film and fashion. Since 1998, one of the arbiters of great style, Swiss watch and jewelry house Chopard, has been a partner of the Cannes Film Festival. “Since that very first festival, I knew it would blossom into a beautiful relationship that would carry on for many years,” says Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele. “I’ve loved the cinema ever since I was young. Cinema makes people dream, and so do our jewelry creations.” It’s the perfect place for a jewelry house like Chopard to debut over-the-top high jewelry creations that are meant to be showcased on the red carpet. “It’s the most famous red carpet in the world and is the perfect place to unveil our beautiful high jewelry creations from the Red Carpet Collection,” she explains.

This year, Scheufele created 75 high jewelry pieces for the 75th edition of the festival, for a collection titled Chopard Loves Cinema. The latest Red Carpet Collection honors the films that have had a lasting impact on the artistic director, from To Catch a Thief and Cinderella to 101 Dalmatians. For the occasion, the Maison has debuted fantastical jewels like a pumpkin ring set with spessartite garnets and tsavorites, which opens to reveal a diamond slipper, and a bracelet featuring dogs sporting a coat of black and white diamonds.

Colorful Jewelry to Collect From Palm Beach https://dujour.com/cities/palm-beach/courtney-leidy-jewelry-interview/ Tue, 16 Aug 2022 02:38:28 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=125523 Palm Beach resident Courtney Leidy launches a fine jewelry line including a selection of pendants that are reversible and stackable

The post Colorful Jewelry to Collect From Palm Beach appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
“I’ve always loved jewelry and accessorizing, but in the last decade, as the trend towards dainty jewelry became more popular, I found it unaffordable to collect in a way that made any sort of statement,” explains Courtney Leidy of Courtney Leidy Jewelry. “One dainty bracelet that cost thousands didn’t make an impact unless it was stacked with five more dainty bracelets. I was always drawn to more substantial pieces, and it was this gap in the market that fueled my desire to design.” Leidy and her family left New York two years ago for the Sunshine State, but for years prior, she spent time in the Diamond District to learn the art of wax carving and jewelry design. “I spent many years exploring ideas around different collections and sketching and designing miscellaneous pieces for myself,” she says. “During that time, my challenge was finding a way to focus it all.” When friends started asking her to create pieces for them, a hobby turned into a reality. This March, her pieces were featured at an all-female designer exhibition, which was hosted by The Stax and Sotheby’s Palm Beach.

Jewelry designer Courtney Leidy (Victoria Benoit)

“Having had one month to pull together my debut collection, I started with a small capsule that I am continuing to build upon,” she says. “I launched with Double Flip Pendants, chains and rings, and will soon be launching mini pendants that can be worn on a chain or on an earring hoop, in addition to ear cuffs, bracelets and anklets. “As much as possible, I’m trying to make each piece multi-functional, so a pendant can be worn as both a necklace or an earring, an ear cuff as a pinky ring, a bracelet as an anklet, and so on.” Inspired by the colors, forms and fluidity of post-war abstract expressionism and Japan’s post-war Gutai art movement—like artist Jiro Yoshihara’s iconic “Circle” paintings—the Post Collection features her signature pendants in a variety of rich-colored cabochon gemstones, shapes and sizes.

Set in 18k yellow gold, the Double Flip allows you to wear one single pendant on its own or connect several together to create a truly unique statement piece. The Jiro Ring is an organically-shaped ring fabricated in heavy 18k yellow gold. “I like to mix contrasting textures and finishes, which isn’t commonly seen in contemporary jewelry,” she says. “I think that’s what sets my pieces apart. They’re big and bold, and while you can stack them, each is intended to be a statement piece all on its own.”

Nell Diamond has been coming to Nantucket since birth and has family who live on the island full time (her grandfather was the principal of Nantucket High School). So when it came time for Hill House Home, her fashion and lifestyle brand, to further its retail expansion, opening a store locally made a lot of sense. “My family moved a lot when I was a child, and Nantucket has really been the most consistent home we’ve had,” she says. The boutique showcases the brand’s whimsical bed and bath linens, robes for adults and kids, hair accessories, swimwear, pajamas, a new shoe collection and, of course, the brand’s signature Nap Dress.

Diamond’s family home is near Nantucket town and she and her husband and three kids spend their summers there. “I’m so excited for so many of my relatives and friends to see our product in real life,” Diamond says of her Main Street store, which is decorated with the brand’s Trellis print, gingham patterns and blue color palette. “I’m definitely going to be there as much as I can—I love manning the register!”

The prints and new silhouettes in the label’s new summer collection were inspired by the Amalfi Coast but designed to be worn everywhere. “One of the reasons I love IRL shopping is because I get customer feedback in real time, and I can’t wait to hear what our customers think,” she says. So far, the Hotel Robes, Swiss Dot Nap Dresses and Sisi silk pillowcases have been fan favorites.

“Why can’t our shoes do more for us?” asks Nelli Kim, founder and CEO of Reden. As a cancer survivor with 20 years of experience in the luxury footwear space, Kim saw a hole in the market for an upscale and fashion-forward line of shoes that prioritizes comfort without sacrificing style. After her recovery, Kim suffered from chronic foot pain related to her chemotherapy—a common ailment among cancer survivors. She spent two years working with an orthopedic surgeon crafting a line of footwear that looks good and feels even better with built-in orthotic insoles, memory foam padding, and shock-resistant outsoles.

Fendi’s Roman Holiday https://dujour.com/style/fendis-roman-holiday/ Fri, 22 Apr 2022 20:18:27 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=124022 For Fendi artistic director Kim Jones, the spring women’s couture presentation was a celebration of the label’s roots

The post Fendi’s Roman Holiday appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
“Rome has a certain spirituality as a city,” says Fendi’s artistic director, Kim Jones. “Not necessarily just something religious, but something present in the layers of its history. That’s what my vision for Fendi is all about: celebrating the power of women.” From its ancient past to the exciting present, the Italian capital was the perfect location for Jones’ Fendi women’s couture presentation. “When you walk down the street in Rome, you are constantly moving back and forth in time,” says Jones. “Where we work feels very modern, but you pass monuments on the way there. There’s a total timelessness to the city: a historic vein which runs through it, but also a movement that is projecting forward.” Fendi was started in Rome in 1925 and has always honored the city’s historic codes.

“Rome, for me, has so many layers to it,” says Jones. “It’s such an ancient city. We’re always thinking of the past, present and future of it. The inspiration came from the idea of different times and that very spiritual side of Rome, which becomes almost celestial; almost space.” This collection’s sci-fi silhouettes are expertly crafted using futuristic techniques, finding harmonies between past and present. Ethereal fabrics like duchesse silk and organza are illuminated with traditional beading and mother-of-pearl, while heat-molded leathers are embroidered with micro sequins, mink and pearls to create powerful, armor-like finishes. “The idea of the future and what’s going on in the world made me think about space,” says Jones. “I’ve been reading and looking at lots of sci-fi recently. I read Dune again because I’d watched it and I wanted to remind myself what the book was like. And the actual Star Wars book by George Lucas.” Volcanic stone and hematite are embedded into bags, and natural crystal geodes and amethysts adorn jewelry in a nod to the city’s archeological remnants of ancient civilizations.

The Return of Alexis Bittar https://dujour.com/style/the-return-of-alexis-bittar/ Wed, 23 Feb 2022 17:27:29 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=123311 The New York City–based jeweler returns to his strong brick and mortar roots

The post The Return of Alexis Bittar appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Five years after his eponymous brand was sold to Brooks Brothers, New York City–based jeweler Alexis Bittar re-acquired his brand and relaunched the beloved label this fall. Bittar opened five experiential stores in New York City in which to showcase his artisanal metal and lucite jewelry and forthcoming accessories collections. For this brick-and-mortar undertaking, in a time when other brands are closing stores, Bittar enlisted the help of his friend, Tony award–winning scenic designer Scott Pask. “I started thinking about who I wanted to hire as a designer and loved the idea of going off the typical route of a store designer/architect,” says Bittar. “I wanted to work with someone who understood theater, and I thought who better to work with than Scott, who has such a tremendous knowledge of designing stage sets.” These two collaborators weren’t interested in the status quo and wanted to surprise and delight shoppers with something modern and elevated. “Alexis’ work is always exciting, deeply admired and beloved,” says Pask. “He has always forged an intrepid path with his perpetually intriguing and provocative advertising and media presence, and his vision for the new retail experience was equally unique.” After online shopping dominated so much of the retail business over the last two years, Bittar felt that if he was going to do retail, it had to be unique. “I do think that consumers, having spent so much time online shopping, void of experiential connection, are looking for these experiences,” says the Brooklyn-based Bittar. “I think retail needed to evolve for a more modern society, but I think customer connectivity and customer experience is important for a brand to define who it is.”

The two design mavens enjoyed the process of envisioning these five boutiques in SoHo, Brooklyn, the West Village, Upper West Side and Upper East Side. “We both are intrigued by experiences within, and images of, spaces that have been left or abandoned in a kind of romantic state of decay, whether domestic, institutional or industrial,” says Pask. Bittar wasn’t interested in a store just looking like a white box boutique. “All the stores have the similar feel of an abandoned institution from the 1970s that’s been transported into the future. There is a sense of a building that’s been decayed with chipping paint, but then there’s this very futuristic mirror sculpture beaming down,” says Bittar. “It gives the sense of being somewhat in a store, somewhat on a set or an art gallery, but giving the perfect experience to look at the jewelry as art.”

Having worked primarily in the theater, Pask relished the opportunity to tap theatrical painters and scenic fabricators to create the finishes and unique sculptures seen in the boutiques. “I loved being able to have artists from the world of theater working with me in another context,” says Pask. “I was trained in architecture and completed that professional degree before I became a scenic designer, so the considerations of scale, materials and space are always a part of my work. I’d designed fashion shows before, but it was fun to work within parameters of more permanence.”

The post For Dior, The Past is Always Present appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
For Dior’s Cruise 2022 collection, the French fashion house and its acclaimed creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri chose Greece, and more specifically the Parthenon in Athens, to stage its fashion show. In ancient times, games in honor of the goddess Athena were held in this hallowed marble stadium, which once accommodated up to 70,000 spectators in the Greek capital. “Showing the Cruise 2022 collection in Greece was like meeting with the roots of our culture,” says Chiuri. “A culture in which exercising the body mirrored exercising the mind. I could say that the idea that guided me when defining the photoshoot was one of sharing, while time stands still, a vision of art and fashion as being complementary. Choreographing bodies, attitudes and imagination, all in harmony with our heritage, in this present moment free from nostalgia but conscious of our shared values.”

This series of photographs captured in the heart of Athens’ exceptional archeological site pays tribute to the photographs of Monsieur Dior's haute couture line taken in 1951 next to the iconic Parthenon

This series of photographs captured in the heart of Athens’ exceptional archeological site pays tribute to the photographs of Monsieur Dior’s haute couture line taken in 1951 next to the iconic Parthenon

This spirit of sports and culture served to inform the ethereal collection as well as a series of photographs unearthed from the archives of one of Christian Dior’s haute couture lines taken in front of the Parthenon by photographer Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini for Paris Match in 1951. “These images clearly express Dior’s great love of art and his wish to reconstruct his own map of beauty, uniting fashion and art,” says Chiuri. “Through the collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture and the director of these archaeological sites like no other, we were granted special permission to reactivate, here and now, their atmospheres with the intention of sharing with the world the idea of beauty that steers my work, a beauty that includes cultures and stories.”

Draped grecian dresses, white pantsuits à la Marlene Dietrich and sporty Aegean blue-and-white-printed separates are standouts of this collection. The collection was captured by Greek photographer Ria Mort. “The power of Ria Mort’s photographs lies in the absolute nature of their subjects,” explains Chiuri. “The temples that were the roots of architecture, and the women who stare right into the lens, telling their story of our world with no hidden artifice other than the force of the clothing that combines past and future, passion and experimentation.”

Fashion’s Favorite Foodie Is Foodgod https://dujour.com/style/fashions-favorite-foodie-is-foodgod/ Fri, 11 Feb 2022 15:00:04 +0000 Kasey Caminiti https://dujour.com/?p=123119 Through a new Discovery+ show, we try to keep up with Foodgod (né Jonathan Cheban)

The post Fashion’s Favorite Foodie Is Foodgod appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Foodgod is a lifelong foodie who has garnered 11 million social media followers for his unique celebration of all things food. In his new eponymous Discovery+ series, executive produced by Kris Jenner, he takes his obsession to the next level in search of the boldest, craziest and most exclusive restaurants and dishes. “No one does what I do, which is getting you to these cool experiences with over-the-top food,” he says. “I eat out 365 days a year.” In Foodgod’s four-episode season, he visits hotspots in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and Miami accompanied by celebrity pals including Jenner, Kim Kardashian West, Fat Joe and Criss Angel. “I use my personality, people I’m friends with and my access to cool places that most people can’t get to, all together in one.”

Foodgod

Foodgod

Audiences fell in love with Foodgod’s boisterous personality on the reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, followed by appearances in a string of the show’s spin-offs, including Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kourtney and Kim Take Miami and Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons. Despite having years of experience filming reality television, Foodgod admits that there were some surprises that came when creating his food-focused series. “I’m so used to just filming. But a lot of times with Foodgod, we had to focus more on the food than me,” he says with a laugh. “I had to make sure I was getting more descriptions of the food and specific details.” The show also differed from the quick hits of Instagram that Foodgod is accustomed to, where photos of food don’t necessarily include specific details. “I was surprised that, ironically enough, I had to focus so much more on the food than I even thought, from very specific questions about exactly how a dish is made to when something started.”

From food creation to presentation, the minutiae is Foodgod’s speciality. “I’m very specific with the way I like things done.” He adds that he will never hesitate when it comes to adjusting a dish at a restaurant if it means it will be made perfectly. “I don’t even think twice about it. I will always change it.” But, you won’t find any Michelin-starred restaurants or buzzy eateries on his series. “My whole thing is the vibe with the food. My brand is pop culture, fun places and fun items, whether it’s crazy potato chips or ice cream made out of chicken,” he explains.

“I use my personality, people I’m friends with and my access to cool places that most people can’t get to, all together in one.”

The first episode of Foodgod fully embraces that vibe by serving up cotton candy art at Kim Kardashian West’s home and a quirky 1950s diner experience with Jenner at Frisco’s in Los Angeles. While Foodgod has close relationships with the entire Kardashian/Jenner clan, he says that he would choose Jenner to accompany him on a foodie adventure. “She’s not dieting all the time so she’s ready to eat. She’s always like, ‘Oh, this place looks good,’ or, ‘I heard about this place.’”

So what restaurants does Foodgod frequent when he’s not filming? “I’ve been going to Zero Bond every night,” he says, adding that the Polo Bar and Casa Cipriani are also New York City favorites. The 60-year-old Candlelight Inn in Westchester is his go-to for buffalo wings, and he loves JG Melon on the Upper East Side for burgers.

Manolo Blahnik’s Golden Anniversary https://dujour.com/news/manolo-blahniks-golden-anniversary/ Mon, 24 Jan 2022 19:01:38 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=122936 The accessories label celebrates 50 years with a new capsule collection

The post Manolo Blahnik’s Golden Anniversary appeared first on DuJour.

With a career spanning 50 years, Spanish-born Manolo Blahnik is one of the world’s most influential footwear designers. “Shoes help transform a woman,” he says. His designs and sketches have appeared in museum exhibitions and numerous books (the latest being 2017’s The Art of Shoes). He collaborated with director Sofia Coppola on the costumes for her 2006 film Marie Antoinette (the film went on to win the Academy Award for Best Costume Design). He’s also an Honorary CBE and has won awards like the Footwear News Lifetime Achievement Award and the British Fashion Council Outstanding Achievement Award. So, on the occasion of the brand’s 50th anniversary, Blahnik has created a collection of glistening gold shoes—new silhouettes imbued with classic design elements.

“I adore gold,” says Blahnik. “It’s been featured in almost every one of my collections, with more significance this year than ever. Why not a gold collection filled with the most extraordinary silhouettes in celebration of my golden year?” From flat boots with cut-out details to crackled gold foil feathered mules, playful fringe knee-high boots and lace flats and mesh pumps, no opulent detail has been overlooked with this collection. “For me, gold is not only a symbol of opulence, it signifies so much more,” says Blahnik. “Versailles, the sun, the gods, all things that I am fascinated with! It is the most decadent of colors, which is why it has appeared time and time again in my designs.”

In celebration of this milestone anniversary, an interactive exhibition titled Manolo Blahnik: A New Way of Walking has launched on the brand’s website. “I want this to be a space where others can learn and feel inspired to create,” says Blahnik. “It’s very important to me, personally, that even those who can’t buy my shoes are able to feel a connection to Manolo Blahnik and who we are. It has been such a joy to relive some of the magnificent moments in my career and uncover things I have not thought about or seen for years!”

The project has been a long-term ambition of company CEO Kristina Blahnik and was designed under her direction. The archival content and touchpoints throughout have been compiled by fashion curator Judith Clark in conjunction with Manolo Blahnik himself and the brand’s in-house archive team. “It’s a dream come true to open the first doors to our archive,” says Kristina Blahnik. “As the legacy of Manolo Blahnik continues to evolve, the experience will continue to develop and tell its story. This is only the beginning of a very exciting journey.” Echoes Manolo Blahnik: “My ethos is to keep going, keep going and keep going! The vision has always been to create timeless and elegant shoes to make people walk beautifully and to make them feel good. That is the secret to our success!”

Now, the American fashion designer has released his highly anticipated second volume, Tom Ford 002. Published by Rizzoli, the beautifully slipcased new tome is a visual tribute to the launch and evolution of Ford’s glamorous namesake empire as well as his feature film accomplishments. The post Rocks on Hudson appeared first on DuJour.

Veteran jewelry expert Jennifer Shanker has opened a retail space adjacent to her West Village fine jewelry showroom, a mecca for talented, independent designers. Muse, which has attracted visitors like Kacey Musgraves, Busy Philipps, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jenny Mollen, showcases jewelry from hot designers like Nikos Koulis, Bea Bongiasca, Jemma Wynne, Silvia Furmanovich and Jenna Blake. “I wanted to provide a retail presence for the designers we represent while providing neighborhood residents a beautiful space for discovery,” says Shanker. “Retail had never been part of our plan, but it was a risk I’m glad we took.”

The welcoming, casual retail space sells the breadth of Shanker’s multidesigner jewelry assortment alongside cashmere sweaters from Leret Leret, art by Ori Gersht, vases by Paul Arnhold, contemporary home goods from Lateral Objects by Stefan Beckman and books by jewelry experts like Stellene Volandes. “After 20 years in the very niche designer fine jewelry world, the addition of new categories is both refreshing and inspiring,” says Shanker. “Collaborating with creatives from candles to cashmere, vases to vessels and from fine jewelry to flowers, being surrounded by beauty arranged in our own unique way has provided a visibility we didn’t know we needed or wanted or would enjoy ever so much. It’s opened up a whole new world of opportunities, relationships and collaborations.”

The store has kept Shanker busy dreaming up merchandising and creative initiatives for her brands and her clients. On the occasion of her store opening, the entrepreneur curated the Have a Heart collection, a multidesigner charitable initiative. Every charm in this jewelry collection represents a heart or a star, and for each one sold at the store and online, the brand donates 10 percent of profits to charities near and dear to its heart.

Shanker has surprised herself with how much she enjoys having the opportunity to interact with customers new and old. “The customer feedback we receive at the boutique is invaluable and helps us do our jobs better as a showroom, as we have first-hand feedback,” she says. “We learn so much about how people shop that really allows us to advise our designers in their process.” Plus, with so many empty storefronts in the West Village and the shuttering of downtown boutiques like Jeffrey, there weren’t many places to shop anymore. But now, she enthuses, “New York is back and it feels awesome.” We couldn’t agree more.

A place where thefts and explosive reactions happen, a permanent generator of sparkles and unpredictable desires.” This breakthrough collection pays homage to the iconic equestrian heritage of the brand while taking references from the era of Tom Ford and borrowing from French sister brand Balenciaga.

The post Buckle Up with Roger Vivier appeared first on DuJour.

The new Viv’ Choc bag is a tribute to the French accessory house’s signature Choc heel, created in 1959. For this modern buckled silhouette, the brand’s creative director, Gherardo Felloni, was inspired by the minimalist shapes of the 1990s. The new curved buckle clasp makes a bold statement that perfectly complements the soft calfskin leather, inspired by horse bridles, saddlebags, reins and harnesses. A shoulder strap and side constructed with neatly folded flaps is elegant and timeless and seamlessly transitions from day to nighttime wear.

The post Our Lady of Rocco Launches With Menswear appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
New York City-based womenswear brand, La Ligne, and chef and restaurateur, Mario Carbone, have come together to create the debut collection from Our Lady of Rocco made up of men’s ready-to-wear styles inspired by 1980s New York City. Alongside his Major Food Group co-founders Jeff Zalaznick and Rich Torrisi, Carbone has had a hand in dreaming up the chic uniforms for his celebrity-approved restaurants like ZZ’s Sushi Bar and Carbone, making his collaboration with La Ligne a perfect match.

Our Lady of Rocco is made up of 19 pieces inspired by the effortlessly elegant style Carbone witnessed growing up in New York City. “It has a certain 1980s Italian-American feel that I associate with the Members Only apparel I remember my dad and uncles wearing back in the day,” Carbone says. With an emphasis on uniform dressing, the collection is a direct extension of the timeless essentials brand that is signature to La Ligne.

The collection ranges from $95 to $595 for the unique navy satin “Our Lady of Rocco”embroidered bomber jacket. To celebrate the new collection, Mario Carbone and La Ligne will be offering an immersive, in-person shopping experience at 275 Mulberry Street, the latest restaurant space from Major Food Group. The collection will also be sold online at the OLOR website.

See How Chopard Dazzled at The Cannes Film Festival https://dujour.com/style/chopard-caroline-scheufele-cannes-film-festival/ Mon, 13 Sep 2021 15:00:01 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=121315 Caroline Scheufele unveiled Chopard’s newest Red Carpet Collection in Cannes this summer

The post See How Chopard Dazzled at The Cannes Film Festival appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
With great beauty all around, the French Riviera is the perfect place to celebrate film and fashion. Since 1998, one of the arbiters of great style, Swiss watch and jewelry house Chopard, has been a partner of the Cannes Film Festival. “Since that very first festival, I knew it would blossom into a beautiful relationship that would carry on for many years,” says Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele. “I’ve loved the cinema ever since I was young. Cinema makes people dream, and so do our jewelry creations.” Each year, except for 2020 when COVID-19 forced its cancellation, the Cannes Film Festival has hosted the biggest names in Hollywood and beyond. It’s the perfect place for a jewelry house like Chopard to debut new over-the-top high jewelry creations that are meant to be showcased on the red carpet. “It’s the most famous red carpet in the world and is the perfect place to unveil our beautiful high jewelry creations from the Red Carpet Collection,” she explains.

This July, the Festival was held two months late but was magical as always. “I think it was wonderful to reconnect in person with old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time, as well as meet new ones,” says Scheufele. “Being back in Cannes was truly special. It was such a great feeling to be surrounded by friends of the Maison. For some, this was their first event in a long time, and we wanted to really make an impression and bring some joy by hosting exceptional performances, fashion shows and showcasing fabulous jewels.”

Chopard’s latest Red Carpet Collection, titled Paradise, boasts colorful precious stones like rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds used on pieces inspired by nature and botanicals. These fantastical jewels were the perfect antidote to the past 18 months and delighted those who had the chance to see them up close. “I think, after the year we had, we all wanted an escape,” says Scheufele. “The Collection really captures that distant place—a paradise—that we dream of getting away to.” From exotic flowers to animals, the new collection is awash with color and whimsy but also boasts new modalities. “These pieces will transport you to another place and time,” she explains. “More than ever, we’ve mixed the most fabulous gemstones with new materials such as titanium and enamel.” Paradise was indeed found at Cannes this year.

Red Carpet Report:

“These are artists whose work I very much admire and who make bold choices. Not only do they make interesting choices with their art, but also in what they wear,” says Scheufele.

The Chicago artist creates vivid, pastel scenes exploring the hidden treasures in everyday life. “I love using painting as a kind of amplifier or distortion pedal, where a handful of dead-end subjects—trees, cars, buildings—are allowed to sing a new song of willfully arbitrary color and pattern,” says Reeder. This whimsical capsule includes “Autobahn”-printed jackets, hoodies, shirts, windbreakers and t-shirts, along with a bucket hat and sneakers.

Recently, Sotelo approached the brand about using Charvet’s iconic prints and patterns to create a capsule collection of men’s swim shorts. “George is both respectful of our approach and enthusiastic about its adaptation to his lifestyle,” says Colban. “We took our time to do it exactly how we all felt it was right.” The duo felt that Charvet’s repeats and abstract prints would be ideal for this application, and the resulting lightweight, water-resistant and quick-drying trunks are classic yet modern.

Fusalp Expands Into Activewear https://dujour.com/style/fusalp-activewear-mathilde-lacoste-interview/ Mon, 14 Jun 2021 19:00:32 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=120231 Under the creative vision of artistic director, Mathilde Lacoste, the French active-and-skiwear brand is launching an athleisure collection

The post Fusalp Expands Into Activewear appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Since 1952, French active-and-skiwear brand Fusalp has been synonymous with champion skiers and athletes. In 2014, Sophie and Philippe Lacoste, members of the Lacoste family, acquired a 77.6 percent stake in Fusalp. Now the brand is delving into the activewear market under the creative direction of Mathilde Lacoste, the brand’s artistic director. “I had the luck of joining a team with a plethora of technical know-how and enthusiasm, some of whom have been at Fusalp for forty years,” says Lacoste. “Over the past year, we’ve really focused on the optimization of our high-performance garments.” The new collection is available on the brand’s website and features pieces ranging from $50-$400.

Fusalp’s new athleisure capsule collection

Fusalp’s new athleisure capsule collection

We spoke with Lacoste about her background in fashion design, the evolution of Fusalp and what’s coming up next and where she’ll be spending her summer.

Where were you before Fusalp?

After graduating from the Fashion Styling and Textile Design program at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris, I joined Lacoste in Paris, where I spent twenty years as Head of Trends, working closely with the development of all products, alongside creative directors such as Christophe Lemaire and Felipe Oliveira Baptista. I was also in charge of the brand’s color spectrum, particularly focused on the range of polo shirts.

How are Lacoste and Fusalp similar?

The value of sport and wellbeing is at the heart of both brands. Fusalp was founded by two tailors in 1952 on the banks of Lake Annecy in the heart of the French Alps with an initial focus on alpine ski wear. Most notably, Fusalp created the first technical fuseau, or ski stirrup pants and the racing one-piece ski suit that was worn by France’s national team in the 1960s. We strive to create the quintessential balance between the technicality and comfort of the material we use to the precision, elegance and style of our cuts. Each silhouette is meant to facilitate movement. We aim to design pieces that are timeless, often highlighted and enriched by our heritage colors throughout each collection.

What’s new and exciting coming down the pipeline for Fusalp?

For spring/summer, we’ve developed our first true athleisure capsule with feminine cuts and a sport-chic spirit, true to our philosophy and DNA. Each piece is ultra-versatile and easy to mix and match–whether worn as everyday pieces or for activities like yoga or pilates. We’ve also played with our traditional logo by introducing a black logo for urbanwear and our Magnetic Rooster capsule which also gives a twist on the Fusalp logo–the rooster being inherently related to our history of performance and victory. The color palette is fresh and optimistic, which I believe is imperative and meaningful for everyone this year. For fall/winter, we have a very playful, youthful and bright collection that is ideal for both skiing and everyday wear. This fall also happens to be the 70th anniversary of Fusalp–which means many surprises to come!

Fusalp’s new athleisure capsule collection

Fusalp’s new athleisure capsule collection

What did you feel was missing in the activewear market that you wanted to offer with this collection?

We wanted to revisit the codes of the activewear wardrobe and design pieces that are structured with technical materials, true to the Fusalp DNA. What’s unique is that after this past year, we wanted a collection that reminds us about how important it is to refocus on better connecting with each other and those closest to us again, by providing versatile pieces that are dynamic and invite movement.

How do you like to wear these new athleisure pieces?

I personally enjoy layering and mixing and matching–for example our Manon leggings and Florence top in a marvelous pop of sorbier red, mixed with the sleek Lancelot jacket from our menswear selection. Each summer, I look forward to spending time with my family in our home in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, near Biarritz in France, not far from the border of Spain. It’s a special moment for tranquility, enjoying the outdoors–from paddle boarding and hiking to yoga and cultivating my inspiration.

Catching Up With Adam Driver https://dujour.com/style/adam-driver-breitling-cinema-squad-charlize-theron-brad-pitt/ Wed, 21 Apr 2021 16:30:25 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=119459 The actor talks watches, similarities between the Marines and acting and being a member of Breitling’s Cinema Squad

The post Catching Up With Adam Driver appeared first on DuJour.

]]>
Academy Award, Emmy and Tony Award nominee Adam Driver, who first broke out in the HBO series Girls, has gone on to roles in films like Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis, BlacKkKlansman and Marriage Story. He has also played antagonist Kylo Ren in three installments of the Star Wars franchise, beginning with 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens. But the next two years will be even busier for the actor as he prepares to play head of the Gucci fashion house Maurizio Gucci in the new Ridley Scott crime drama Gucci. Scott is clearly a big fan of the actor, who also stars in his upcoming film The Last Duel, a reteaming of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (who star and co-wrote the script with Nicole Holofcener) in an epic tale of betrayal and justice set in 14th-century France. “It was great,” says Driver of the opportunity. “It was a dream job. I love [Scott’s] movies and working with him. It’s such an incredible group of writers and actors, including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and the incredible Jodie Comer. They’re unprecious about their material and so trusting and collaborative. All of the dream things that you hope for.”

When he’s not in production on new film, theater or television projects, the former Marine spends time with his longtime partner, wife Joanne Tucker, and their young son in Brooklyn. Driver and Tucker have another project together: the nonprofit Arts in the Armed Forces that the couple co-founded to bring theatrical productions to the military. After 9/11, Driver enlisted in the Marine Corps and was a rifleman and mortar man at Camp Pendleton, California, for three years, but was never deployed. A mountain bike accident and serious injury ended his military career and he was discharged shortly thereafter, but Driver loved the kinship and support he found in the Marines. He decided to follow his high school passion for acting and enrolled at Juilliard in New York City to see if there was something there. “When I got out of the military, I went to acting school at Juilliard and I realized how powerful it was to have access to language from writers who were so much smarter than me,” explains Driver. “How powerful and empowering it was to be able to label a feeling. I didn’t grow up with theater as part of my daily diet.”

Driver also found similarities between the theater community and the armed forces that could be harnessed. “How they work cohesively as this team unit, for example,” he shares. “You have to know yourself and work improvisationally. They’re very much one and the same; the process is the same.” Arts in the Armed Forces started with one event, an approachable, unpretentious, non-produced performance with no sets and no costumes by an ensemble cast staged at Camp Pendleton. The energy in the room was so encouraging to the couple that they wanted to expand on it. “We started with one performance,” says Driver. “We would pick a great play. Not Shakespeare’s Henry V, something more digestible and contemporary. We would have to convince actors to come to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and perform a play. No one knew what it was that we were doing.” Now, the organization travels around the world putting on plays, hosts an annual fundraiser and offers screenwriting awards and film screening series. And people in the armed services are seeking out the organization to get involved. “A lot of people in the military were interested in the arts before they entered the military,” says Driver. Because COVID-19 has placed travel on hold, the nonprofit has taken to hosting a virtual film screening series for which they ask famous actors and directors to pick their favorite film. “We screen it for a military audience and then interview a panel of people about the process so there’s always a dialog afterwards.” For the series, Driver has wrangled Tom Hanks, who chose 2001: A Space Odyssey, Danny Glover (Pelle the Conqueror), and Laura Linney (Slap Shot).

Now that Driver has some time on his hands, we caught up about another role he finds rewarding: as a brand ambassador for luxury watchmaker Breitling and a member of its Cinema Squad alongside Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt. “I liked the idea of squads and doing this as a group,” explains Driver. “I liked that it wasn’t just actors, and I was interested in the history of the watch in aviation.” Driver wasn’t much of a watch guy beyond the basic Timex or a Michael Jordan watch he was given as a child. “I liked that these Breitling watches were simple and durable, but they’re the nicest watches I own,” he explains of his new Breitling Premier Chronograph 42. “But, also, [I like] that I don’t have to look at my phone.”

Adam Driver is primarily interested in the concept of time and timing when it comes to acting. “Working as a group over the individual,” he explains. “In acting, you have one rule: You have to show up and do the best you can. You’re not acting in a vacuum.” But timing is everything onstage and on a film set. “It’s kind of a weird thing that you’re expected to perform and do it at this certain time. It’s all based on time, which is exciting and annoying. With theater, it’s live and it exists and then you can never do it again.” So, having been in the armed forces and being an actor, what’s Driver’s relationship with time? “I am a pretty punctual person and I’m respectful of people’s time. If you’re not 15 minutes early, you’re late.”

Chopard’s Pursuit of Happiness https://dujour.com/style/chopard-happy-diamonds-timepiece-julia-roberts-interview/ Tue, 20 Apr 2021 13:00:25 +0000 Natasha Wolff https://dujour.com/?p=119434 Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts talks about her collaboration with the Swiss jewelry house, Chopard, and the new iteration of its Happy Sport watch

Today, Chopard unveils the new Happy Diamonds timepiece campaign starring the incomparable Julia Roberts. Created in 1993 by Chopard’s co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele, the iconic Happy Sport watch has been putting smiles on people’s faces for decades. And who better to embody that emotion than the always-smiling actress. “For me, she is not only a talented and glamorous actress, but a genuine global film legend with a big heart, you could say she represents a feminine ideal,” says Scheufele. “Across generations and natural borders, the name Julia Roberts evokes a uniquely positive universal feeling. And of course, who can forget that famous smile! Julia was the one and only natural choice for us!” For the campaign, Scheufele engaged director Xavier Dolan to create a companion film (below) that shows off the joie de vivre of Roberts and the timepieces themselves.

The house’s signature “dancing diamonds” on the Happy Sport and Happy Diamonds Collections honor that free-spirited charm that the brand so espouses. Though the dancing diamonds, of course, have remained, Scheufele wanted to explore the timepieces’ codes and revisit the original design in new ways. “In recent years, the Millennial generation has been inspired by vintage pieces, increasingly featuring them for an edgy, personal style, and I saw this as a perfect opportunity to reach a new generation of women with one of my favorite designs from the past,” Scheufele explains. “Updating the design wasn’t necessarily a challenge, but the two things that I wanted to do were incorporate an automatic movement versus quartz and change the case diameter to create the perfect size that would appeal to a wider audience. For this aspect, we did hours of research of how to determine the perfect size and came across the famous golden ratio which is how beauty is determined in science, art and nature, which led us to the brand new 33mm case size.”

Modern women want watches to take them from day to night, from a spin class to a cocktail party and Scheufele took that into consideration during this reimagining. “Happy Sport, with its distinctive combination of resilient steel and precious diamonds can be styled for a casual look, but the dancing diamonds can also add an evening sparkle,” she says. “I wear mine almost every day, and it looks great for all occasions. For daywear, I love to wear it over my cuff sleeve and stack it with several of our Happy Hearts bangles that come in an array of colors. For the evening, I tend to pair my Happy Sport with a classic L’Heure Du Diamant diamond tennis bracelet or a few of our Precious Lace rings.” Any way you style it and wear it, the dancing diamond will bring a smile to your face. So what makes Scheufele happy? “This past year, nothing has brought me more peace and joy than simply sitting in my rose garden with my darling dogs, sipping a cup of tea. This has really given me time to focus on creativity. I’ve had the time to sketch and dream up new designs which is one of my favorite things to do.”

We talked with Roberts to find out what makes her happy and why this campaign was such a perfect fit.

What do you love about the Happy Sport watch?

There is something about having a watch and every time you look at it seeing all these sparkling diamonds whirling around; it’s pretty awesome and truly good stuff.

What does being a free-spirited woman mean today?

Being comfortable in your convictions and sharing your convictions with those around you. Not all women have those liberties and I am very grateful that I have them.

How important to you is responsible luxury?

I would say that the idea of responsible luxury is something that not enough brands pay attention to. The thing with a Maison like Chopard is that it has really pioneered the idea of having a conscience, leading the charge and setting an example for other brands to follow.

What is so special about Chopard?

Chopard just represents this timeless idea of elegance and sparkle and being ladylike. You kind of think: “When I grow up I want to be having a great time and wearing watches and earrings by Chopard”… and now look at me, I’m all grown up!

What makes you happy?

The sunrise

What’s a movie that makes you happy?

The Philadelphia Story is a movie that makes me happy, to think about or to watch.

What are your tips to achieving happiness?

1) Be kind to others; 2) surround yourself with loving, kind, compassionate people; 3) kissing, followed by dancing as a close second.

What are your favorite qualities in a woman?

Depth, soulfulness and just a real personal strength.

What’s your greatest extravagance?

Travel

What makes you laugh?

Cleverness; not so much things that are funny, but things that are clever: a thoughtful thread to humor.

What’s your favorite motto?

The motto that I repeat the most is “no way out but through.”

What’s your current state of mind?

I am really happy right now; it’s been such a beautiful day and I have felt such a really great sense of kinship that I had not expected today, so I’m super happy.
